|Hopkins County to honor Rosa Parks|
|From Staff Reports|
Oct. 31, 2005 - A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, on the steps at Hopkins County Courthouse to honor Rosa Parks, who more than 50 years ago spurred the civil rights movement by refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man.
Hopkins County Judge Cletis Millsap has ordered that the U.S. flag be flown at half-mast per President George Bush's proclamation for the nation to honor Rosa Parks locally, just as she is being honored in the U.S. Capitol where she lies in state in Rotunda.
Local officials encourage everyone to help honor Parks by attending the local memorial service Tuesday morning.
