Sulphur Springs opened up the region team tournament with a opening-round loss to Waco Midway and Coach Reynolds said the team could not get any momentum.

In the third round of action, the Wildcats had three wins by default on Saturday morning, then cleaned up the consolation semifinal by taking seven of the final 10 matches.

"After last year's defaults, the tournament directors really stressed the fact that teams should show up to player so we geared up to play on Saturday against Hillcrest," the coach said. "They were shorthanded and we started with three defaults, but overall we played solid tennis with a few three-setters and some runaway matches but these kids were determined to repeat last year's performance."

In the consolation championship, the Wildcats were tied at 8-8 with Brownwood, before taking the final three matches of the tournament.

Reynolds said Brownwood was very strong and fatigue was a factor in the win.

"Brownwood is one of the strongest teams we've come up against. They were strong from the No. 1 spot on down," she said. "Fatigue was a factor and the kids were hurting but they pulled it out with adrenaline, and teamwise this is the most exciting match I've seen in a long time. I couldn't be more proud of these kids and it's a fitting end to a great season."

The Wildcats won four doubles matches and seven singles matches to take the win.
