Nov. 1, 2005 -- Gerald Grant Greeney Jr. of Pickton has been identified as the man killed in a motorcycle crash on FM 269 early Monday morning.

The fatal wreck involving a motorcycle and a deer is believed to have occurred around 2 a.m. Monday morning. Sheriff's officers were first alerted to the crash after receiving reports of a person lying sprawled on the road on FM 269 near County Road 2408 and a motorcycle laying nearby in the ditch.

The 45-year-old Pickton man was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:48 a.m. by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Ronny Glossup. Greeney's name was withheld Monday by Texas Department of Public Safety officers pending notification of family members.

Officers remained at the location until after 6 a.m. investigating the accident. The Pickton man was traveling south on FM 269 south on a 2005 model Harley Davidson, registered to his father, early Monday when he encountered a deer in the roadway. The motorcycle struck the deer in the middle of the roadway, flipping the bike and throwing Greeney off.

Greeney was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, State Trooper Brian Worley noted in his report.
