July 15, 2005 -- Despite the enticement of a $500 scholarship, the Fall Festival board is having a hard time finding interested girls to compete in the 2005 Hopkins County Fall Festival Cover Girl Contest.
"So far I've only had one person contact me," said Kelly Stonaker, a Cover Girl pageant organizer. "The information is due for the catalog the first week of August, so I need them to sign up by the last week of the month so I can get that information in."
To be eligible, contestants must have maintained a B grade average or above during the 2004-2005 school year, submit a $15 fee, and be going into their junior year at one of the following schools: Como-Pickton, Cumby, Miller Grove, North Hopkins, Saltillo, Sulphur Bluff, Sulphur Springs or Yantis.
Girls must submit applications for the contest to Stonaker no later than Thursday, July 28. Applications must include their name, address, school attending, phone number and parents' names. For applications and more information, contact Kelly Stonaker at 903-243-4300 or call her at work at 903-885-7671.
The winner of the Cover Girl pageant will be awarded a $500 scholarship to be used at the school of her choice, along with several gift certificates from local merchants. She will receive $250 per semester upon proof of enrollment in college. The amount must be used within two years of high school graduation.
The first runner-up will receive a $250 scholarship and the second runner up will receive $50. All contestants will receive gift certificates from area merchants.
Kaytlin Black, the daughter of Dr. David and Pam Black, is the reigning Fall Festival Cover Girl.
The Cover Girl Contest will kick off with the float contest during the 2005 Fall Festival parade on Saturday, Sept. 10, and conclude in Hopkins County Regional Civic Center on Saturday, Sept. 17.
