Feb. 2, 2005 -- Saturday, May 7, has been set as the election date for two places on the Sulphur Springs City Council.
The two council seats are Place 6, held by Chris Brown, who currently serves as mayor, and Place 7, held by Lydia Bryant.
Brown was elected to his first term on the council in 2002. Bryant returned to the council in 2002 after serving six years as a councilwoman in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Neither Brown nor Bryant would give any indication Tuesday night whether or not they would seek reelection.
The first day to file as a candidate for either of the council seats will be Saturday, Feb. 5. The filing period will end at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 7.
Early voting for the May 7 city election will be conducted during normal business hours beginning Wednesday, April 20, and ending at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3.
In calling the election, the city council selected Nell Furney as election judge.
Gail Roberts was designated early voting clerk and Kathie Steele named alternate voting clerk.
