Special Christmas services on tap at some churches

Dec. 25, 2005 - For those who wish to celebrate the holiday in true tradition, several local churches will be offering special Christmas Eve and Christmas services Saturday and Sunday.

On Christmas Eve, three churches in eastern Hopkins County have scheduledr Christmas Eve services.

Birthright United Methodist Church, located one mile east of State Highway 19 on FM 71, will kick off the celebration of Christ’s birth starting  with a candlelight service at 6 p.m. Pastor Paul Bailey will give the special message. The public is invited to join church members in the singing of Christmas hymns, celebration of Holy Communion and the lighting of candles. 

Then at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Tira United Methodist Church and Sulphur Bluff United Methodist Church will join together in the Sulphur Bluff building for a candlelight service.

On Christmas Day, Tira UMC and Sulphur Bluff UMC will hold combined Christmas Day services at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Tira church.

Mt. Zion Church will also hold a Christmas service Sunday morning. The celebration of Christ’s birth begins at 11 a.m. Church leaders said no Sunday school classes will be held due to Christmas activities. Mt. Zion Church is located 5 miles east of Commerce on State Highway 11 west.
