Dec. 11, 2005 -- Since Owens Country Sausage opened its Sulphur Springs plant two years ago, more than 80 million Snackwich sandwiches, about 15 tons, have been produced here. If placed side by side the sandwiches would stretch from coast to coast and production continues to increase, according to Owens Country Sausage President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Townsley.

It's an impressive output -- impressive enough to bring the company's top executives to town to say "Thanks" to both the workers and the city of Sulphur Springs.

Representatives of Owens Country Sausage and parent company Bob Evans Farms were in Sulphur Springs on Friday to mark the company's second anniversary here, and to express our appreciation to the employees and to the city of Sulphur Springs for the partnerships that have developed here."

"The success of the past two years is a result of the hard work and dedication of the work force at the Sulphur Springs facility," Townsley said.

Roger Williams, vice president of Bob Evans Farms, said that from the start, the relationship with Sulphur Springs has been as good as the first impression upon coming to town.

"Our first impression was landing [at the airport]," Williams said. "We were very impressed with the airport and the terminal there."

Next came a meeting with representatives of Hopkins County-Sulphur Springs Economic Development Corporation and other city officials.

"We were very impressed with the friendliness, the straight-forwardness with which we were dealt," Williams said.

Sulphur Springs Mayor Clay Walker, City Manager Marc Maxwell and EDC Executive Vice President Roger Feagley participated in the second birthday ceremonies.

In addition to the Sulphur Springs facility, Owens Country Sausage and Bob Evans Farms have food production plants in Richardson; Bidwell, Springfield and Xenia, Ohio; Hillsdale, Mich.; and Galva, Ill.

Owens Country Sausage is a subsidiary of Bob Evans Farm, a leading producer and distributor of pork sausage and a variety of homestyle convenience food items under the Bob Evans and Owens brand names, which are available in 30 states.
