|Choral Society slates auditions for Aug. 12-13|
|From Staff Reports|
Aug. 7, 2005 -- Want your voice to be heard? That’s the idea behind North East Texas Choral Society’s upcoming auditions.
NETCS will resume rehearsals on Monday, Aug. 15, and auditions for newcomers to the community choral group are set for Friday, Aug. 12, and Saturday, Aug. 13.
Auditions will be for all vocal parts, especially men. The auditions will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day in the second floor choir room at First United Methodist Church. NETCS Music Director Carol Allen will conduct the auditions. No prepared material is necessary.
And for those whom the word “audition” strikes fear into their hearts, Allen has always said they shouldn’t be nervous.
“These auditions are designed to be ‘singer friendly,’” she has said. “You do not have to have a professionally-trained voice. You do not have to be sight reader. They don’t have to bring a prepared piece to sing, but they can if they want to.”
The audition process is held for two reasons. First, so Allen can hear the voice and know whether she’s listening to an alto or soprano, tenor or a bass, for voice placement.
“The other reason is so I can make sure that you can match pitches,” she said.
NETCS singers meet for rehearsal every Monday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The group presents two concerts each year, one in the spring, the other for Christmas, as well as a fund-raising cabaret. This year’s Christmas concert, titled “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like ... ” is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center auditorium.
