January 9, 2004 -- Registration for spring classes at Sulphur Springs Technical Center and other institutions of higher learning serving Hopkins County residents is under way.

Registration began Tuesday at SSTC and will continue through Thursday. The first day of spring classes at the local school is Monday.

No registration will be held on January 9. Late registration, for which there is a fee, will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on January 12 and 13. The first class day is January 12.

All returning students should print a copy of their transcript and bring it with them when they enroll. Students can print their transcript by logging on to the college website at www.paris.cc.tx.us and then going to Campus Connect. To apply for admission and check on requirements, students can call the Technical Center at 903-885-1232.

The Technical Center is likely braced for ever-larger numbers of students this spring. Since its opening in 1996, Sulphur Springs Technical Center has grown from the original 300 students to almost 700 students registered for classes last fall. Last year, 685 students enrolled in the spring, an increase of 134 over spring 2002, and 89 more than fall 2002's 596 students.

Registration also began today at Paris Junior College, the Sulphur Springs Technical Center's affiliate college. Class sign-ups will continue at the PJC campus from 8 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, with late registration being held Monday and Tuesday.

At Texas A&M University-Commerce, late registration for the spring semester is under way. Late registration and drop/add for courses will be held through Thursday, Jan. 15.
