Feb. 20, 2004 -- More good news is on the agenda for the Monday meeting of Sulphur Springs-Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation board of directors.
The board will hear a request from Morningstar for a recommendation for tax abatement on a more than $7 million expansion at the Sulphur Springs facility. The expansion would add a fourth Bosch antiseptic filter system to the plant, along with other improvements to expand plant capacity.
"The exact amount is $7,169,674," said Randy Thomas, executive director of the EDC. "They will also be adding 15 new jobs."
Morningstar's request is the first to meet requirements of new abatement guidelines recently approved by the city, county and hospital district.
"This would comply with the standard abatement request," Thomas said. "At least, that's what the board will be reviewing."
If the EDC board gives a favorable recommendation to the requested abatement, it will then go before the city council, county commissioners court and hospital directors for approval.
