April 4, 2004 -- A Greenview family's home on County Road 1158 was destroyed in an early morning fire Sunday, but fortunately all seven family members escaped the mobile home without injury.

County emergency dispatchers were contacted a few minutes before 4 a.m. Sunday with reports of a structure fire on County Road 1158 in Greenview. Miller Grove, Arbala and Cumby firefighters responded at 3:54 a.m. to the reported blaze and remained until 7:46 a.m. Sunday to make sure it would not rekindle.

Firefighters said the double-wide mobile home was fully involved when they arrived. Despite their efforts the structure was considered a total loss.

Reports from emergency responders indicated that one person woke up and saw the glow from the flames and was able to wake the rest of the family and get them out of their burning home without injury.

Hopkins County Salvation Army assisted J.C. and Marice Brown, his parents Leon and Charlie Brown, and the couple's three children, 2-year-old Jacey, 9-year-old Quinton and 12-year-old Dakota by "putting them up at a motel" Sunday, Chairman Jo Marie Neal said Monday morning.

The couple indicated to Neal that they did have insurance on the residence, and were slated to meet with representatives from their provider sometime Monday or the first part of the week.

Hopkins County Salvation Army is accepting donations at Salvation Army Headquarters, located inside The Bait Shop at 1702 South Broadway St., of clothing, money or other items for the Brown family, and KSST will also accept donations at the station as well, Neal said. Clothing sizes needed include women's sizes 22 and 18 pants or 38x32 pants, and sizes 3X and XL shirts, and size 812 shoes; men's size 31x36 and size 36x36 pants, size large or sizes 17 and 1612 shirts, and size 31 underwear; boys sizes 12 slim and 14 slim pants, sizes 10-12 and 14-16 shirts or medium and large shirts, and size 12 underwear; and toddler's size 3T clothing, size 2T or #6 pull-ups.
