DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks will be either the No. 6 or 7 seed in the Western Conference playoffs.
The Mavs were guaranteed of avoiding the No. 8 spot — and, thus, avoiding a first-round matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers — with Utah losing to the Lakers who beat them 125-112 on Tuesday night. The Jazz wound up seeded eighth and will meet the Lakers again in the first round.
The sixth and seventh seeds will be decided Wednesday night, the final night of the regular season.
If the Mavs beat the Houston Rockets at home, and the Spurs beat the New Orleans Hornets in San Antonio, then Dallas will be sixth. If either the Rockets or Hornets win, the Mavericks will be seventh.
Dallas' first-round foe could be Denver, Houston or San Antonio.
