Recent Auburn hire headed to Cowboys instead

IRVING, Texas (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys have hired Rich Bisaccia as special teams coach three weeks after he joined the Auburn staff in a similar capacity.

New Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said Friday that Bisaccia had "an offer that he felt he could not turn down" after the Tigers hired him to coach running backs and special teams on Jan. 3. The Cowboys reported their hiring on the team's website.

Bisaccia was special teams coach at Tampa Bay from 2002-10 and worked alongside new Dallas defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin and defensive line coach Rod Marinelli.

Bisaccia spent the past two seasons as special teams coach in San Diego. He replaces Joe DeCamillis, who went to Chicago as assistant head coach in charge of special teams.

Spurs' Popovich, Duncan to miss another game

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and forward Tim Duncan will miss a second straight game after the ailing duo didn't make the trip for Friday night's game at Dallas.

Popovich stayed home sick and Duncan sat on the bench with a sore left knee Wednesday night during San Antonio's 106-102 victory against New Orleans. Longtime assistant coach Mike Budenholzer will again take the helm against the Mavericks.

Duncan is having a resurgent season after a few years of waning production. The 36-year-old is averaging 17.5 points and 9.8 rebounds, his best numbers since 2009-10.

The Spurs have won six straight and are tied with Oklahoma City for the best record in the Western Conference.
