Fant fans 14, Wildcats lose to TH

Sophomore pitcher Ryan Fant struck out 14 batters Friday leading Texas High to a 3-0 win over Sulphur Springs in the District 13-4A finale at Eagle Stadium.
Fant, a craft southpaw, allowed just three hits in the complete game shutout as the Tigers took the win and second place in the district baseball race. Texas High has a 9-3 mark, while the Wildcats finish district at 8-4.

Perfect game pitcher has baseball roots in SS

It’s not a stretch to say that Chicago White Sox pitcher Philip Humber learned about baseball right here in Sulphur Springs.
Humber, pitched the 21st perfect game in Major League baseball history on April 21, downing Seattle 4-0 on just 96 pitches to record 27 outs.
When Humber was just a hard-throwing eighth grader, he was on the Sulphur Springs Braves.

Sulphur Springs athletes in regional track action

Training has been going well for the 20-plus Sulphur Springs student athletes who will be participating in the UIL Class 4A Region II track meet.
The event will be held in Arlington on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington Friday and Saturday.

Lady Cats play speedy Lady Dragons

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats might have avoided the power of Hallsville and Whitehouse, but can’t escape the speed of Nacogdoches.
Nacogdoches finished third in the 14-4A race with a 10-4 mark, the only losses were to powerhouses Hallsville and Whitehouse. The Lady Dragons are 22-6 for the year.
