Steele needs votes; SS teams play at home

    Como-Pickton Eagles’ Bryce Steele has been nominated for the Gridiron Legends Player of the Week award, presented by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football on behalf of Cavender’s and Wrangler.
    Steele had 305 yards rushing for the Eagles in their recent win over Paris Chisum.
    Steele, a 6-1, senior, has more than 1,800 yards rushing for the 1-9 Eagles.
     Bryce is one of ten nominees for the weekly statewide award, which is 100 percent decided by fan voting.  The poll, located at www.texasfootball.com, closes Friday at noon.  Additionally, we’ve set up a facebook page that should help you spread the word virally through the community:https://www.facebook.com/GridironLegends

    Sulphur Springs basketball teams will be action this week with both home and road games planned.
    The Wildcats will play their season opener Tuesday against Lindale at the SSHS gym.
    The freshmen play at 5 p.m. followed by the junior varsity at 6:15 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m.
    The Lady Cats play at North Lamar Tuesday, varsity at 7 p.m. Sulphur Springs will host Clarksville Friday night, JV game at 5  p.m., varsity at 6:30 p.m.

Cumby, MG, Saltillo runners compete at state

    ROUND ROCK — Runners from Cumby, Saltillo and Miller Grove participated Saturday in the UIL state cross country meet held here at Old Settlers Park.
    Miller Grove took seventh place at the event with 162 points.


Notes on Wildcats win over Marshall

    MARSHALL – The Sulphur Springs Wildcats will take on a team they have never played before next week.
    In the first round of the Class 4A, Div. II playoffs, the Wildcats will meet Wylie East for the first time in school history. Wylie East is a fairly new high school, less than 10 years old.
    The game is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ron Poe Stadium in McKinney.


Wildcats win undefeated district title

    MARSHALL — The race is over and the winner is the Sulphur Springs Wildcats, without a doubt.


C-P Eagles win, Steele runs for 305 yards

    The season-long nine game losing streak for Como-Pickton came to an end Friday night.
