The Sulphur Springs sub-varsity baseball teams split Monday games played at Longview.
McKINNEY – The red-hot bats for the Sulphur Springs Wildcats continued to blaze as they hammered the McKinney North Bulldogs, 17-4 Saturday in non-district baseball action.
Eight different Wildcats had a least one hit as Sulphur Springs recorded 17 hits to account for the 17 runs, three of the hits (homers by Shane McQueen, Colby Suggs and Austin Garrison) left the park in the rout. Suggs had five RBIs for his second straight game as he went 3-for-4; Reeves, McQueen and Garrison also had three hits each. McQueen knocked in three runs going 3-for-3; Mason Morton had two RBIs.
ROCKWALL — The tough, fast field Friday at the Rockin’ “R” Relays limited the points for teams from Sulphur Springs.
While the Lady Cats had their lowest team total of the year, head girls track coach Matt Young was encouraged by the times.
“We had several girls run their personal bests,” Young said. “It was a very fast and competitive field. I believe we’re prepared and hopefully peaking for the district meet.” The district meet is Thursday and Friday in Hallsville.
WOLFE CITY— The Cumby track teams advanced several athletes to area from the District 17-1A meet at Wolfe City.
Qualifying for area for the Trojans was Michael Morris in shot put and 1,600-meter relay, Shane Partridge in shot put, 1,600-meter relay and triple jump, Timmy Cook in 800-meter, 400-meter run and 1,600-meter relay, Brandon Heer in 1,600-meter relay, Arsenio Ugalde and Luke Sartin as 1,600-meter relay alternates.
