AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Tim Maitland had a two-run single in a five-run first inning for Texas, which held on to beat Texas A&M 5-4 on Sunday and win the Big 12 regular season title.
Texas capitalized on three walks and two errors in the first. The Aggies outhit the Longhorns 13-5 but committed three errors.
Brandon Loy also had an RBI for the Longhorns (36-12-1, 17-9-1 Big 12).
Joe Patterson went 2-for-4 and batted in two runs for Texas A&M. Kyle Colligan and Caleb Shofner also had RBIs for the Aggies (33-18, 14-10), who put together a three-run third inning.
Texas reliever Austin Dicharry (6-1) got the win, giving up one run on one hit over 2 1-3 innings. Austin Wood pitched 2 2-3 innings, giving up no runs on three hits, to earn his 13th save.
Texas A&M starter Barret Loux (3-2) gave up five runs, none of them earned, to take the loss. Loux gave up two hits before being replaced by Kyle Thebeau in the first inning.
The Texas victory coupled with Oklahoma State's 5-1 win over Oklahoma gave the Longhorns the regular-season title. Missouri is in second, followed by Kansas State
