The North Hopkins Lady Panthers and Miller Grove Lady Hornets will be in a doubleheader volleyball playoffs tonight.

The Class 1A bi-district volleyball playoff games will be held at Prairiland.

The Miller Grove/James Bowie game will be the opener at 6 p.m. followed by the North Hopkins/Avery matchup at 7:30 p.m.

Miller Grove took second and North Hopkins third in 18-1A volleyball behind champion Cumby.

Miller Grove is under first year coach Jennifer Payne.

The Lady Panthers are coached by veteran coach Danna Lewis in her 12th year at the helm of the program. Seven times of the last dozen years her teams have made it to postseason competition.

Members of the team include: Adesha Bisenius, 5-7, senior, outside hitter; Kaylea Flippen, 5-3, senior, defense; Adrianna Sanchez, 5-3, libero; Danni Jones, junior, 5-4, defense; Cheyenne Duke, senior, 5-7, outside hitter; Blair Bassham, junior, 5-8, junior, outside hitter; Elizabeth Shaw, senior, 5-7, senior; P.K. Harlin, junior, 5-6, defense; Brittany Whatley, senior, 5-7, outside hitter; Amanda Bisenius, sophomore, 5-6, outside hitter; Tana Hall, senior, 5-7, defense/outside hitter; Chrissy Hall, junior, 5-11, middle blocker/outside hitter; Kathryne Dunn, senior, 5-11, middle blocker; Courtney Loper, senior, 5-10, middle blocker.

“We have a lot of seniors, eight total on the team. They don’t all start, but it’s good to have that experience,” Lewis said. “They have been to the playoffs before in some sport. Volleyball or softball.”

Two years ago the Lady Panthers made the playoffs and went to the regional quarterfinals.

“This is a team that could play for a couple of rounds. Avery is pretty scrappy. It will be even, it will come down to which team shows up ready to play. We are coming together as a team,” Lewis said.
