Lady Cats swept by Texas High

The Texas High Lady Tigers rolled to three-game sweep of Sulphur Springs in volleyball action played Friday in the SSHS gym.

After taking Marshall to five games earlier in the week, the Lady Cats lost 3-0 to the visiting Texas High squad to fall to 1-7 in District 13-4A competition.

Sulphur Springs lost by scores of 13-25, 5-25 and 19-25 to the visiting Lady Tigers.

In Game 1, the Texarkana school used serving by Ashlyn Rybiski and Morgan Patton to jump ahead 6-4. Sulphur Springs fell behind 11-6 following superior work at the net by the visitors. Sulphur Springs got key serves from Emily Mason for a short rally which cut the lead to 11-8. Then Texas High starting a red-hot roll, sparked by six consecutive scoring points. The Lady Tigers won the game, 25-13.

The second game was not much of a contest with Sulphur Springs starting slowly and were never able to recover. The Lady Tigers had a 10 point lead at 12-2 before the Lady Cats knew what was going on. Kills at the net and steady serving by Texarkana allowed the team to take the win 25-5.

In Game 3, the Lady Cats showed they had some spirit. With the game tied at 10-all, Sulphur Springs edged ahead with serves by Hannah McCampbell bolstered by kills at the from T’Kea Johnson. Samantha Scott came up with a key block. Texas High closed out strong, scoring five of the final six points to win 25-19.

The Sulphur Springs ninth grade team took wins by scores of 25-10, 25-19.

Sulphur Springs will be at Hallsville Tuesday before having an open date on Oct. 16. The regular season ends Oct. 27 at home against Longview with “Senior Night” activities planned.
