COOPER — In the battle of Bulldogs, it was the Quitman pack howling late as they scored 14 points in the second half to take a 25-14 win over Cooper.

The 13-2A battle was tough from the opening kickoff.

Cooper won the battle of stats with 305 total yards compared to 135 for the visiting pups. But in the upset Quitman had the most points on the scoreboard.

Cooper got the first tally of the game when Tommy Walker ran for a 28-yard touchdown catching a Ty Huie pass. The kick was good and the hometown Bulldogs had a 7-0 lead.

Quitman came storming back and scored on a Devonte McNeal 51-yard run. The two point conversion by Andre Thompson gave the visitors an 8-7 lead. Quitman closed out the first half scoring when they kicked a 42-yard field goal to go up 11-7.

Thompson added a third quarter run and with the extra point the Quitman Bulldogs had an 18-7 lead.

The teams traded touchdowns in the final period. Huie scored on a one yard run, the extra point was good for Cooper to make it 18-14.

McNeal scored on a 40-yard run and with the point after the Quitman team went ahead to stay 25-14.

McNeal paced the Quitman attack with 23 carries for 126 yards.

Cooper got 102 yards rushing by Montrel Roberts on 16 carries. Huie ran 13 times for 64 yards and completed nine of 19 passes for 72 yards.

Top tacklers for the Cooper team include eight each by Eli Mauldin and Chris Ballard. Walker and Nick Reeves had seven tackles each. Holden Jenkins had six total tackles and two tackles for losses.

Cooper (3-3, 1-2) will have to regroup quickly playing next at Lone Oak in another tough game.
