SS eighth grade girls third in tournament

RAINS — The Sulphur Springs middle school volleyball teams have been in recent action with success in tournament play.
The Sulphur Springs eighth grade A team won third place in the Rains tournament according to coaches.
The Lady Cats won the opening match over Princeton, 25-20, 25-9. Destiny Wade had 13 service points and nine kills; Madison Ramirez had 10 service points; Jaleigh Avery, six serves for points and nine passes; Kennedy Potts had 10 assists; Enlin Mathes with seven assists and Hailey Chester added six kills.
The Sulphur Springs girls edged by Wills Point, 26-24, 25-17. Mathes added six service points and 10 assists; Ramirez, four points and one kill; Chester, three points, five kills; Wade turned in eight kills; Avery had 10 points; Potts nine points, Kayleen Collins, eight; Taja Evans, seven; Madisett with seven assists and Kiara Johnson had two kills.
In the third place match - Alba Golden fell to the Lady Cats 25-5, 25-19. Chester had 11 service points and three spikes; Johnson, eight points, two spikes; Wade, five points, three kills; Mathes and Ramirez added four each; Evans had nine passes.
The Sulphur Springs eighth grade B team also competed in the Rains tournament.
The team lost 18-25, 10-25 to Alba-Golden. Shakoja DeBase had four services points.
In the next game, the Lady Cats lost to Rains, 13-25, 18-25 with Jasmine Walker serving for four points.
Sulphur Springs seventh grade team also competed in the Rains event.
The Lady Cats team lost to Alba-Golden, 14-25, 23-25. Becky Matlock had 10 service points; Skyler Martin added six points and Melanie Ford turned in four points.
In their next match, the Lady Cats lost in three games to Edgewood by scores of 23-25, 25-23 and 8-15. Becky Matlock led in serving with eight points; Melanie Ford and Kayla Glasson had six each and Skylar Martin added five points.
