MV takes homecoming win, 42-21

MOUNT VERNON —  Kellan Carrell had a night to remember for Mount Vernon.

Carrell, the quarterback/defensive back, was all over the field as Mount Vernon took a 42-21 win over Mineola before a big homecoming crowd.

Carrell completed 14 of 19 passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns, he rushed 13 times for 75 yards and another score. On defense he picked off two passes to highlight the attack.

“Carrell just had an unbelievable game,” said Mount Vernon head football coach Charles Swann.

The Tigers are 5-0 with the big homecoming win. Swann says his team is playing with a lot of confidence.

Mount Vernon had 256 yards rushing and 173 passing. For the Tigers, Colton Keener caught seven passes for 100 yards and a score while Jay Jay Johnson ran 20 times of 114 yards and a touchdown.

Mineola was held to 237 total yards. Zane Lacaze had 14 tackles for Mount Vernon with Zac  Rolf adding 12. Kasey Bogue had another sack to give him a season total of 10.

The undefeated Tigers have an open date before returning to play Oct. 9 for District 16-3A action at New Boston.
