C-P Lady Eagles,Yantis score volleyball wins

MOUNT VERNON — The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles won the consolation game in the Mount Vernon volleyball tournament on Saturday defeating the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats in three games.

The Lady Eagles had a rough day on Thursday falling to Mount Vernon and Detroit but defeating James Bowie in pool play.

"We weren't getting the passes we needed to be able to run an offense. This continued into the first game on Saturday against a hard serving away team," said C-P head volleyball coach Francis Mowat.

The Lady Eagles pulled it all together to get 17 kills, eight aces, and eight blocks against Sulphur Springs.

Scores against Sulphur Springs were 25-17, 16-25, 25-18.

"Skye Brumley had some well placed tips to keep us in the game," added Mowat. Saxe Daugherty had five kills and one ace for C-P. Megan McCoy had four kills and three aces, Bre Peoples with one kill, four blocks, and three aces, and Kadi Baxter had one kill, two assists, and one ace.

"Our back row passing played a big part in our win--(Jessica) Hendricks, (Violet) Perez, (Marbelis) Rasgado. And we had great hustle by Diana Ramirez and Michaela Williams," Mowat said.

Como-Pickton travels to Mount Vernon on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 4:30 p.m. with ninth grade followed by JV and varsity play.


Yantis Lady Owls  trump Fruitvale

FRUITVALE - Yantis Lady Owls traveled to Fruitvale Friday for volleyball action.

Yantis beat Frutivale in five matches. Varsity scores are as follows:Game One: Yantis won 24 -26, Game Two: Yantis lost 16-25. Game Three: Yantis won 25-20, Game Four: Yantis won  28-26, and Game Five: Yantis winning15-9.

Fruitvale defeated both Yantis Junior High teams in two matches.

In B team action: Yantis  lost Fruitvale 11-25, 22-25; A team: Yantis lost to Fruitvale 17-25, 18- 25.

Next action, Yantis hosts Phoenix on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 5 p.m.
