WHITE OAK – The Rains Wildcats record fell to 0-3 for the season after a 55-22 loss to the White Oak Roughnecks on Friday night. Rains got off to a good start in the first half but became overwhelmed in the second half.

Nathaniel Carista gave the Wildcat offense a spark in the first quarter when he recovered a White Oak fumble and returned it to the White Oak 3-yard line. Three plays later quarterback Trevor Vandeventer forced his way into the end zone to give Rains a 6-0 lead.

White Oak answered the touchdown with a nine-play drive that was capped with a 1-yard touchdown run by Junior Hamilton. Later, White Oak blocked a punt by Rains and Jeremy Simms recovered the loose ball in the end zone for another White Oak touchdown and a 14-6 White Oak lead.

Shortly after the start of the second quarter the game was halted for 60 minutes for lightning. When play was resumed, Rains stopped White Oak on fourth-and-six at the Rains 19-yard line. The defensive stand preserved the 14-6 score at the half.

Dustin Fry capped the drive by darting into the end zone from the 2-yard line for a touchdown. Fry ran in the 2-point conversion to make the score 28-14 with 2:46 remaining in the third quarter.

Hopes of a comeback by the Wildcats ended when White Oak picked up scores on runs of 68 and 24 yards to increase their lead to 41-14.

Vandeventer wrapped up the Wildcat scoring by leading Rains on a 68-yard drive. Vandeventer concluded the drive when he converted a fourth-and-six play with an 18-yard touchdown run. Vandeventer then completed a pass to Carista for the 2-point conversion.
