MOUNT PLEASANT — Sulphur Springs tennis team took a 15-4 win over Mount Pleasant here Tuesday in team varsity action. Sulphur Springs got nine default wins due to a lack of players by Mount Pleasant.

In mixed doubles, Alejandra Lira and Luke Penny teamed up to defeat Buitron/ Curtayera 6-0, 6-2.

Wildcat Robert Stevens blanked Cody Curtayera 6-0,6-0 in singles play; also Luke Penny trounced Jacob Johnston 6-1, 6-0 and Zack Adams defeated Oscar Hernandez 6-0, 6-0.

In girls singles Sulphur Springs netter Shelby Carter lost to Abi Buitron 6-7, (3) 1-6;  Lady Cat player Jaymee Wilson lost to Kason Kent 6-7, 6-4, 1-6; Karen Mora of Sulphur Springs fell to Morgan Luedke 6-8, 4-6 while Alejandra Lira edged Isabel Caldwell 7-5, 7-5.

“The team is 2-0 for the season and 1-0 in district with the next district match against Longview Pine Tree coming Tuesday at 3:45 at the high school courts,” said coach James Lovett. “This is a great group of players. They are focused and working hard to win district.”
