Cooper 2-0 after win Friday

COOPER — For  the second consecutive week the Cooper Bulldogs played lights out defense.

The Whitewright Tigers were pretty toothless against the Bulldogs as the Cooper defense held them to 93 total yards.
The visitors got just three first downs while throwing five interceptions. Cooper took a 35-8 win and dominated more than the score indicates.
The Bulldogs, playing their first home game of the year, scored first when Montrel Roberts raced over from 27-yards out. The Dan Beeler kick gave Cooper a 7-0 lead.
Bulldog quarterback Ty Huie found Tommy Walker open for a 6-yard scoring pass. Beeler’s extra point was good and held up for the halftime score, 14-0.
Cooper scored twice more in the third period. Roberts raced over from 17-yards out and Huie scored on a 1-yard touchdown plunge. Each score was followed with a Beeler boot. The Bulldogs were barking loudly, up 28-0.
The final Cooper score was a fumble recovery in the end zone by Wyzer Moore. Whitewright scored late to make the final 35-8.
The Tigers completed 6-of-22 passes for 90 yards with five interceptions.
Cooper rolled to 20 first downs and 362 total yards. The Bulldogs had 48 rushes for 292 yards. Huie completed 7-of-15 passes for 68 yards. Roberts led the way with 72 yards on seven carries while Pee Wee Jeffery ran nine times for 65 and Chris Ballard collected 65 yards on 11 attempts.
Leading receiver for Cooper was Jonathan McGraw with one catch for 31 yards.
Leading the tackling parade was Holden Jenkins with five tackles, three for losses; Landon Rackley, four, one for loss; Lucas Lehman, four, one for loss; Nick Reeves, five tackles.
Picking off passes were Roberts, Roy Pierce, Mc Graw , Walker, Jeffery.
Cooper, now 2-0, will play at Mount Vernon Friday at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Mount Vernon is also 2-0 for the year.
