Out with the old in with new at Yantis

YANTIS — That is the latest motto sung at Yantis ISD. The school has recently undergone some needed renovations to the gymnasium and baseball facilities.

"We are so lucky to be in a financially healthy district," said Yantis athletic director Jack Bowles. "We can afford to do nice things without having to pass bonds like other small schools have to do."

The old, brown bleachers in the gymnasium have removed and the school has provided new more suiting fold-away stands in its place.

"The old ones were just plain uncomfortable and did not even accommodate the number of fans in attendance," Bowles added.

Other improvements adorning the sidelines is a new $4,000 scorekeeper's booth that was provided courtesy of Tri-County Autoplex in Hugo, Okla., and locally by Yantis Federal Credit Union.

"All of these were badly needed," Bowles said. "We are very fortunate to be able to have these nice things for our students athletes. We are very thankful to our superintendent and school board for overseeing and fulfilling these needs."

At the footsteps of the gym will be matching improvements. The baseball field has also undergone renovations that will coordinate with the other building on the campus.

The backstop will have split stone and soft netting and the outfield will be all new with special bermuda and hydro-mulch. It is set to be ready for action in September if the weather permits. Following the completion of the baseball field, the softball field is slated next on the renovation list.
