Volleyball Reports

CUMBY - Monday, Aug. 24, Cumby hosted Trenton in volleyball action. The Cumby Lady Trojans varsity team won in four sets: 25-11, Trenton came back to take a win 26-24. Cumby sealed the next two wins, 25-18, 25-15.

Ashley Anderson served for a team-high 18 points and two aces for the Cumby Lady Trojans. Others scoring were Valerie Partridge with 10 points, two kills, two assists, and six digs; Savannah Neal had seven points, six kills, nine assists, and two digs; and Laura Oviedo added six kills and three digs.

The Cumby JV team won in two sets with scores of 25-16 and 25-20 against Trenton.

Scoring on the JV side was Alisa Colley and Kayla Ackers with six each and Molly Martin added four points for Cumby.

"Both teams are starting to come together and play like a team," said Cumby volleyball coach Shelly Jones. "We are just trying to focus on the finer points and stay up when you're up."

The Cumby freshman volleyball team won both sets, 25-16 and 25-4.

Cumby volleyball coach Kevin Tanton said, "Breanna Gay scored 13 points in a row of her serve. I am very proud of how hard the girls worked tonight. I have seen a lot of improvement and teamwork since the last game." Other contributing scorers for Cumby were Briana Wilson had 10 and Rikki Townsend served for seven points.

Cumby will be hosting a volleyball tournament that will begin Thursday, Sept. 3-Saturday, Sept. 5.


EMORY — Royse City was defeated by Rains in recent volleyball play. The final totals were 25-18, 25-16 and 25-12 in the three matches setting Rains Lady Wildcats' record at 9-3.

Torie Talkington led the Lady Wildcats with nine kills, two blocks, and nine aces. Teammate Chelsee Hudson put away eight kills, had four blocks, and three aces. Marlee Canada set for eight assists for the Rains team.

The Lady Wildcats will travel to Brownsboro for more volleyball tournament play on Thursday, Sept. 3.


Youth Football Tryouts

WINNSBORO - Winnsboro Youth Football tryouts will begin on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the MMS football field.

First and second grade will be at noon with a cost of $45, third and fourth grade will be at 1 p.m. for $45, and fifth and sixth will be at 2 p.m. for $70.

Forms can be picked up at Scott's Pharmacy and Dairy Queen. Please return forms and payment to Scott's Pharmacy by Friday, Sept. 11 to avoid a $10 per person late fee.
