North Hopkins edges SB in volleyball

SULPHUR BLUFF — The  Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears hosted North Hopkins Lady Panthers in volleyball action Friday.

North Hopkins won 25-23, 25-10, in game three Sulphur Bluff won 25-23, and in game four the Lady Panthers won 25-20.

Lady Bear attacks came by Ashley Bryant with 11,  Kaitlyn Hancock with seven, and Karissa Wolf had six.

Serves by Sulphur Bluff were Ginger Thompson with 10, Jamie Goldsmith with eight, Bryant had five, Wolf and Hancock each had four, and Brittany Andrews had two.

Mikayla Potts led in digs with 23 followed closely by teammate Bryant  with 22, Goldsmith and Becca Naylor with 14 each, Hayley Lawson had 11, and Hancock with one.

Bryant had one block and two assists. Wolf had four blocks. Hancock had two blocks.  Andrews made four blocks. Lawson had four assists and Naylor made three assists.

Sulphur Bluff has record of 4-12.

"This is not great but better than last year," said new Lady Bears volleyball coach Dee Ann Evans. "The girls are working hard and learning new things and are getting more excited and confident about volleyball."

Sulphur Bluff will travel to Clarksville on Tuesday with JV starting at 4:30 p.m.

North Hopkins will host Roxton with ninth grade team starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

The Lady Bears and Lady Panthers will both compete in the Cumby Tournament Sept. 3-5. Teams from throughout the area will be in competition.
