FARMERSVILLE — The Winnsboro Red Raiders struggled on offense, losing their season opener to the Farmersville Farmers, 15-7 here Friday.

All the scoring was done in the first half. The lone tally for the Red Raiders came from the airways. Quarterback Christian Bosold connected with Ashton Slaughter for an 8-yard touchdown pass.

For the night Winnsboro managed 170 yards of total offense.

“We played poorly, the 170 yards we had was our lowest out put in a long time,” explained Winnsboro head football coach Steve Pinnell. “We just could not get anything going. We’d do a good play, then make a mistake or get a penalty. We had no consistency.”

Pinnell continued, “We gave up 15 points in the first half, but after that we played well on defense. Our defense stopped Farmersville and got us the ball but we could not score. We only had one good drive the whole night.”

Winnsboro will be on the road again as they trek to Pittsburg. The Pirates are 1-0 after downing Jefferson, 21-3 in their season debut.
