C-P Lady Eagles host two opponent volleyball matches

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, the Como-Pickton Lady Eagles hosted a two opponent matches.

Both the C-P JV and ninth grade teams took it on the chin against the first team, Mount Vernon. JV lost 25-15 and 25-10 while the ninth grade team lost 25-17 and 25-12.

The Lady Eagles varsity came back to put in a total of 22 kills against the visiting Lady Tigers with the skilled hands of Breanna Peoples and Megan McCoy each with six, and Saxe Daugherty with three.

C-P had a total nine blocks, three each for Peoples and Manon Schakel.

Setting was Skye Brumley with nine and Kadi Baxter had six assists. Marbelis Rasgado and Baxter each had four aces.

"Nice job of passing by Violet Perez, Marbelis Rasgado and Jessica Hendricks," said Lady Eagle head volleyball coach Francis Mowat. The final match scores 18-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-16, and 15-10.

Against Union Grove, the Lady Eagles had 34 kills. Daugherty had 10, Peoples with eight, and McCoy with seven. Brumley racked up 17 assists along teammate Baxter with eight. Baxter also had eight serving aces. Peoples had three blocks.

The C-P ninth grade team fared better against Union Grove winning 25-14 and 25-22. C-P JV lost 25-19 and 25-17.

The JV and ninth grade team are competing in a tournament hosted by Quitman today.

On Tuesday, Aug. 18 the three Lady Eagle teams will travel to Liberty-Eylau starting at 4:30 p.m. The varsity will follow that action with competition in the North Hopkins Tournament Aug. 20-22.
