Football season is literally right around the corner with scrimmages starting Saturday.

Fans who traveled with the Sulphur Springs team for all 16 weeks and the incredible run for the state title should have lots to cheer about this year.

Now wait a minute, this is just a scrimmage, I am not saying this team can or can’t go 14-2 and win state. I am just saying it will be interesting to watch everything develop and see how it shakes out.

It all starts with the scrimmage and while Henderson as strong as they have been in years’ past. I know they will put up a sturdy test for Greg Owens and the ‘Cats in blue starting at 9 a.m. at Gerald Prim Stadium.

The schedule of play will be as follows: Sulphur Springs defense vs. Henderson offense, 15 plays with ones (starters) and 10 plays with twos; the Sulphur Springs offense vs. Henderson defense, 15 plays with ones, 10 with twos; Sulphur Springs defense vs. Henderson offense (free to blitz) 10 with ones and 10 with twos; Sulphur Springs offense vs. Henderson defense (free to blitz), 10 with twos; five plays  Sulphur Springs punt block vs. Henderson punt; five plays, Sulphur Springs punt vs. Henderson  punt block; five Sulphur Springs PAT/FG block vs. Henderson PAT/FG; five Sulphur Springs PAT/FG vs. Henderson PAT/FG block.

Then it go to live half - running clock, fair catch punts, live PAT/FG, ball starts on the 30.

At  11:30 a.m. The ninth grade and JV go back-to-back on game field. The ninth grade will play 40 plays Sulphur Springs defense vs. Henderson offense, 40 plays Sulphur Springs offense vs. Henderson defense, 10 with ones, 10 with twos, 10 with threes and 10 with ones. The JV will include 40 plays Sulphur Springs offense vs. Henderson defense, 40 plays Sulphur Springs defense vs. Henderson offense, 15 with ones, 15 with twos and 10 with ones.

Sulphur Springs will wear blue varsity jerseys, the JV will wear white jerseys with the Wildcat freshmen in gold jerseys.
