It’s a double opener for the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats today.

Not only are they hosting Prairiland and North Lamar in a dual scrimmage in the opening action of the year, but it is first game for new Sulphur Springs head volleyball coach Brandi Small.
Small, who was hired to replace Rachel Curtis, has been at the helm a short time and still learning the players and the talent level of the team. Small came to be the head coach of the Lady Cats after coaching stops in Cleveland and Princeton. Small, a native of Teague, is a graduate of Texas A&M-Commerce where she also played volleyball.
The schedule today will feature three teams on three levels with the varsity, JV and ninth grade competing.
In varsity action — Sulphur Springs plays Prairiland at 5 p.m.; North Lamar vs. Prairiland, 6 p.m. and Sulphur Springs vs. North Lamar, 7 p.m.
Ninth grade and JV plays in the same order and should play at 5 and 7 p.m. Some games will be held in the smaller gym with the varsity games in the main gym.
