More than 100 attend grid camp

The Sulphur Springs Wildcat and freshman football camps were recently held, ending Thursday at the high school practice fields at the James Cameron Memorial Athletic Complex.

Awards were presented to both groups to team and individuals.

In freshmen camp - competition awards were to Pace Setters -  those who caught a coach’s eye,  commitment level, coachability, work ethic and character. These awards were given each day in camp.

Tuesday - Brad Macek (QB-DB), Cabo San-Vig (WR-DB), Forest Jeter (RB-LB) and Larriat Scott (OL-DL).

Wednesday-JaQuerias “Duke” Johnson (WR/DB), Dylan West (WR/DB), Seth Savage (C/DL) and Caden Price (OL/DL).

Thursday - Roderick Moore (WR/DE),TerryWoods (OL/DL), Zach Miller (WR/DB) and Brandon Bryant, (OL/DL).

Awards given in the young group of campers in grades 4-8 were as follows: longest football throw, D.J. Abron, fourth grade; Easton Silman, fifth grade; Tanner Ramirez, sixth grade; Josh Foster, seventh grade and Willie Ivery, eighth grade. Fastest award: Abron, fourth; Dane Rutherford, fifth; Ramirez, sixth; Foster, seventh; Elijah Mosely, eighth.

The Steelers won the 7-8 grade award in “Wildcat” football action and in the 4-6 grade level, the “Wildcat” award went to the Longhorns team.

Sulphur Springs head football coach Greg Owens said more than 100 total campers took part in the event which ended Thursday.
