Yantis gears up for basketball camp July 20-23

YANTIS - Yantis will be offering a basketball camp for boys and girls in grades first through ninth on Monday, July 20-Thursday, July 23.

There will be three sessions.  Grades first through third will be 8 a.m.-10:15 a.m. for fun and games. Grades fourth-sixth will be from 10:30 a.m.-noon in getting ready for Lil' Dribblers. Grades seventh through ninth from 12:45-3:45 p.m. for junior high mass fundamentals, and intense type camp. The cost of the camp is $40.  Brochures are available at the Yantis school, Hibbetts, or FieldHouse.

Participants can register early or at the school on Monday, July 20, the first day of the camp. Contact 903-438-8739 for more infomation. In other Yantis basketball news, basketball players including Brandon Simpson, Mark Carrasco, Garde Bowles, Brian Rogers, Ty Davis, Allen Rose, Mathew Crayton, and Jereme Smith went to team camp at Oklahoma Baptist University.

"We had league play where we went 6-3 and lost by 1, 5, 8 to 1AA school and 2 AAA schools. The final day was a single elimination tourney, where we went 1-1, losing by 2 points," stated Jack Bowles, Yantis athletic director and head boys basketball coach. "Our players had a great time and played against some high level of competition. Shane Rose coached the boys and did a very good job as well."

Co-Ed softball tourney slated

The Sulphur Springs Panthers Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. will be hosting a Co-Ed softball tournament Saturday, Aug. 8.
