Baseball, softball tourney play continues

The baseball and softball diamonds are full of activities with area teams in competition on the road and at home.
The Sulphur Springs 9U All-Star team coached by Tory Humphries, will play in the state tournament in Center starting Saturday.
The 10U All-Star team, coached by Joey Potts, went 6-0 in district. They defeated Honey Grove 16-0 in the championship game. They take on Cooke County at 11 a.m. Saturday at the state tournament in Texarkana, Texas.
The 11U All-Star team, coached by David White, finished in second place.
They will be in state tournament against Center at 10 a.m. Saturday in Longview.
The Sulphur Springs 12U team got second play in district. They play Jacksonville at 5 p.m. in the first round of the state tournament in New Caney.
The team is coached by John McCullough.
The 13U team, coached by Jeff Box, finished second in district and qualified for state action in Kilgore. They play EMC at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Coleman Park events
Coleman Park will host two state tournaments. The girls double elimination tournaments will be held Saturday through Monday.
The boys Dixie 14U will be held Saturday through Thursday.

Boys tournament
The Wayne Cooper-coached Sulphur Springs 14 U boys Dixie team which will play in the state tournament Saturday at 8 p.m. against Spring Hill at Coleman Park.
Other games on the schedule Saturday include: 10 a.m., Paris vs. Princeton; 12:30 p.m. Texarkana vs. Hallsville; 3 p.m., Longview vs. Steel Belt; 5:30 p.m. Fannin County vs. Cooke County.
The event is double elimination with action continuing until Thursday.
Dixie Softball
tournament
The Dixie softball event will feature teams in the Darlings and Angels divisions in state tournament play at Coleman Park starting today and continuing through Monday.
Hopkins County softball secretary Sandy Sachs said a total of 17 teams would be participating in the event.
Three area teams are in action today as the tournament begins.
The host team for the Angels, coached by Jamie Harris plays at 6:30 p.m. against Denison.
The host Darlins team coached by Chris Voorheese plays at 5 p.m. against Commerce.
The District 4 champs for the Angels, coached by Broderick Godbolt will play at 5 p.m. against Tri Cities.
Teams participating in the Darlings bracket will be Jacksonville, Dayton, Franklin County, Denison, Commerce, Tri Cities, Diboll and Hopkins Co.
In the Angels division are: Pineland, Jacksonville, Crosby, Hopkins Co., Denison, Commerce, Tri Cities, Diboll and Hopkins Co. National.
