Sulphur Springs teams play in events

Sulphur Springs teams continue in action today in the 8U state baseball tournament at Coleman Park.

In Monday night action, the Sulphur Springs Central All-Stars  lost their first game of the event, falling to Prosper Green, 11-6.

In the first two games of the tournament, the Sulphur Springs Central team took a 13-1 win over Ore City and beat Paris, 18-5.    They play today at 6:30 p.m. vs. Splendora.

The Sulphur Springs Nationals will be in action today at 6 p.m. against Jefferson.

The Nationals won 13-12 over Cooke County Monday.

In other tournament news, the Sulphur Springs 9U All-Star team coached by Tory Humphries, will play in the state tournament in Center starting July 11.

The 10U All-Star team, coached by Joey Potts, went 6-0 in district. They defeated Honey Grove 16-0 in the championship game. They play in Texarkana, Texas in the state tournament, taking on Cooke County at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The 11U All-Star team, coached by David White, finished in second place. They will be in state tournament action against Center at 10 a.m. Saturday in Longview.

The Sulphur Springs 12U team got second play in district. They play Jacksonville at 5 p.m. in the first round of the state tournament in New Caney. The team is coached by John McCullough.

The 13U team, coached by Jeff Box, finished second in district and qualified for state action in Kilgore. They play EMC at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Wayne Cooper coached the 14 U team which will play in the state tournament Saturday at 8 p.m. against Spring Hill at Coleman Park.
