Sulphur Springs in state lineman challenges

Athletes from Sulphur Springs will take part in the State Lineman Challenge July 8 in Duncanville.

Sulphur Springs captured second place and qualified for state in the lineman challenge June 1 at Lakeview Centennial. Competing were:   Jimmy Villa, Tyler Halerumal, Dylan Owsley, Chris Sorley, Fred Gilstrap, Beau Carpenter, Kedrick Dial, Mason Y’Barbo and Alex Peek. The Wildcats were second as a varsity team and ninth as a JV according to coach Charlie Coker.

At Duncanville, the events will be held at Panther Stadium with competition to begin at 4 p.m.

Admission is free but parking is $5. Entry fee is $25 per athlete which includes a T-shirt.

Contested events will include: bench press, tire flip, truck push, hand-over-hand sled, sled drag, farmer’s walk, medicine ball throw and sand bag load.

Awards will be given 1-3 by classification, medals will be 1-3 for individual events and 1-3 medals for overall individual competition.

Teams competing in 4A are — Lindale, Rosenberg Terry, Angelton, Pflugerville Hendrickson, Waco Midway, Beeville, Sulphur Springs, Mabank, Lake Travis and Marshall.
