No. 1 Carlisle blanks the NH Panthers

LONGVIEW — The No.1-state ranked Carlisle Indians lived up to the lofty rating, downing North Hopkins 12-0 in the Class 1A Region III area baseball playoffs.

Carlisle took the win in five innings as two pitchers combined for a shutout over the Panthers.

Cannon Coleman padded his record to 10-0 for the year hurling the first three frames. He struck out five, walking none and gave up the only four hits of the game for North Hopkins.

Belting  hits for the Panthers were Jason Leber, Canyon Cockrum, Brandon Joslin and Dillon Williams.

Josh Simmons entered the game in relief for the Indians. He pitched the final two innings, striking out five, not allowing a base run. He retired the side in order to end the game.

Carlisle banged out 13 hits with North Hopkins pitcher Canyon Cockrum taking the loss. Paco Castro pitched in relief.

Cullen Stokes and Simmons each went 3-for-4. Stokes tripled, doubles and knocked in three runs. Coleman and Clay Shelton each had two hits and Coleman recorded a triple, scoring twice. Chance Stewart scored twice and knocked in two runs with a single.

The Panthers made five errors on the night.

The Indians took a 1-0 lead, added five more in the second. Then in the fourth inning, Carlisle tacked on five runs to go up 11-0. The squad scored one more in the fifth to take the 12-0 victory.

Carlisle (24-0) the top team according to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association will face No. 3 Cayuga (16-2) later this week with the game tentatively set in Hallsville. It is not known if the game will be a one-game or best-of-three series.

North Hopkins ends the year 15-6-1.
