NACOGDOCHES — The Yantis golf team took fourth in the recently completed regional tournament held at Piney Woods Country Club in Nacogdoches. The Yantis Owls team earning a fourth place finish (only five strokes behind second).
"Daniel Cerretani finished, a personal best, second place overall. He has qualified to advance to the state meet. Daniel led the way for the Owls with an 82 and an 81," said Yantis golf coach Michael Alphin.
"Followed by seventh place finisher Kenny Nunez with a 87-90. Darren Burgess with 92-95 (tied for 19th), Cory Ward with 97-109 (finishing tied for 40th) and Justin Hunt with 121-113 (tied for 74th). I am very proud to have coached these golfers for the past four years. They have grown a lot both as golfers and young men. I will greatly miss them next year as Yantis looks to the future to continue the traditions formed by these young men."
Representing Yantis Lady Owls was Amanda McKinney as the lone female golfer at the regional competition. McKinney finished fourth place overall with a 105-99.
"Amanda also qualified for the state contest in Austin by being the second highest ranked medalist. Amanda is the first female golfer that I have been able to coach to the state meet. She has done an outstanding job," said Alphin.
McKinney and Cerretani will be competing in Austin at the Morris Williams Golf Course on May 11 and May 12.
