ROBSON — Between the howling wind and Highland Park, any chance of making it to the state golf finals was pretty much gone in the breeze for the Sulphur Springs boys’ squad.
Sulphur Springs took ninth place overall with scores of 330-339-669, some 69 strokes behind first place Highland Park.
Highland Park took first with scores of 288-312-600 and J.J. Pearce, 295-306-601 will advance to Austin in state competition.
Sulphur Springs scores include: Cameron Wilks, 78-79-157; Cort Walker, 78-86-164; Kason Childress, 84-87-171; Adam Perry, 90-88-177 andChance Byrd, 95-88-183.
The other District 13-4A representative, Texas High, had scores of 312-318 for 632 and fifth place.
Just advancing to regional was an accomplishment for the Wildcats who took second to Texas High in district action at The Links At Land’s End to make to regional.
Regional was played Wednesday and Thursday at the 6,725-yard Wildhorse Golf Course in Robson. A wide open course famous for being windy.
“We started the day in ninth and finished in ninth.  Very strong winds were tough, along with Highland Park. Their No.1 player Cody Gribble is very good, ” said Sulphur Springs head boys golf coach Ross Funk.
The coach continued, “I was very pleased with our showing.  We were by far the youngest team. We had no seniors. I’m looking forward to our progress over the next year. We appreciate all the support of the team.”
