SS girls take seventh; boys open regional play

ROBSON — The team from Highland Park was just too strong to stay with and won the Class 4A Region II girls golf title with a 638 total.

Sulphur Springs, the champions of District 13-4A, took seventh place overall with scores of 338-356 for a 721 total.

Lady Cat scores were: Britney Cheatham, 87-83-170; Kirstie Wallace, 84-92-176; Miranda Conway, 94-87-181; Kaitlyn Potts, 106-90-196; Kaley Perry, 104-92-196.

Danielle Johnson, competing as a medalist, had scores of 97-102 for a 199 total.

Sulphur Springs girls golf coach Steve Carter said he was pleased with the team play  and senior leadership of Britney Cheatham and Kaitlyn Potts.

“We’re just two or three strokes per girl from being at the next level. I was pleased with how we competed,” Carter said.

The Sulphur Springs boys coached by Ross Funk will compete in regional today and Thursday.

SS boys members are Kason Childress, Adam Perry, Chance Byrd, Cameron Wilks and Cort Walker.
