North Hopkins teams split two home games

Teams from North Hopkins earned a split Tuesday in home softball and baseball district action.

The North Hopkins Lady Panthers (7-0) remained unbeaten in District 12-A softball play with a 10-0 win in five innings over Saltillo.

The win secured a district championship for the Lady Panthers.

Chastin Smiddy was the winning pitcher going five innings, striking out six and allowing two hits while walking four. Smiddy also had two hits at the plate and scored three times.

Losing pitcher for Saltillo was Kirsten McLane who allowed 10 runs from nine hits.

Getting hits for North Hopkins were: Crissy Hall, Courtney Loper, Jessica Harry, Liz Shaw, Cheyenne Duke, Tana Hall and Grace Cox scored twice.

Cumby Trojans 4,

Cumby shortstop Donnie Rodriguez took a 2-1 pitch over the left field fence for a two-run homer breaking a 2-all fifth inning tie and handing the Trojans a 4-2 win over North Hopkins.

Cumby starter Timmy Cook got a complete game win striking out 16 walking two and allowing two unearned runs.

Paco Castro of North Hopkins was the losing pitcher.

Cook had an RBI single to drive in pinch hitter Jordan Strickland. Catcher Tanner Gomez also had one RBI.

Cumby and North Hopkins are tied at 7-2 in second place behind Wolfe City at 8-0 in the district baseball race.
