LUBBOCK — Kedrick (Keman) Dial might be the key to the defensive future for Texas Tech.

Sulphur Springs head coach Greg Owens confirmed reports that standout defensive end Dial has verbal committed to Texas Tech University.

Dial’s agreement to play in Lubbock came at the annual spring Red/Black football game Saturday at Jones Stadium.

The Sulphur Springs junior used his 6-5, 215-pound frame to get 27 tackles, 19 quarterback pressures and seven sacks this year for the state champion Wildcats.

“He just decided to do it. Texas Tech was one of the schools he was really interested in and he took their offer,” Owens said. “It’s an in-state school and he likes the program. All he has to do now is take care of his business in the classroom.”

Owens said he thinks Dial will stay at defensive end where he can use his 4.6 speed.

“They want him to get bigger and stronger, but they are not worrying about that now,” Owens said. “Tech is just glad to get him and he made a good choice. He always liked the school and it was one of his favorites.”

Dial had received offers frorm Nebraska, Texas A&M and Minnesota.

Another key player verbally comitting to Tech Saturday was lineman JaQwalylin Arps of Denison.
