GRAND SALINE — The Como-Pickton Lady Eagle track team competed at the two-day district track meet event on Wednesday and Thursday at Grand Saline.

C-P Lady Eagles challenged the other eight teams in District 13-2A to score 48 overall points for eighth place. Winnsboro took first with 120 points.

Alondra Alonso will be running at regionals in the 3,200 and 800-meter runs, Maci Kight will be advancing with her throw in discus, and Deanna Garrett will be vaulting after her first place finish–to go to regionals that will be held at Stephen F. Austin in Stephenville on Friday-Saturday, May 1-2.

The C-P JV girls team scored overall 20 points just behind Lone Oak JV with 32. Caddo Mills won with 114.

Garrett will go to Frisco on Friday for regional qualifiers and Kight, Alonso, along with Bre Peoples as an alternate for long jump and Manon Schakel as an alternate for triple jump will go to Pittsburg on Thursday for regional qualifiers.

"I was proud of the girls. They really pushed themselves. They did awesome," said C-P Lady Eagles head track coach Virginia Green. "I was particularly impressed with our freshman, Moriah, competing at the varsity level, and watching Deanna (Garrett) vault is like watching someone dance."

Green is in her second year of coaching at C-P. "With this young team, I am so excited for next year," added coach.
