A district win on the road which kept them in the upper half of the 13-4A baseball standings.
Sulphur Springs scored early and often and took advantage of six Lobo miscues rolling to a 14-2 Tuesday night win.
The game was shortened due to the 10-run rule and humbled the Longview squad.
The win puts the Wildcats at 4-4 after eight games in district play while Longview falls to 2-6. The win gives Sulphur Springs a season sweep over the Lobos.
Wildcat hurler Jake “The Snake” Dougan was again sneaky on the mound using a mixture of serpentine pitches, highlighted by a dipping curveball. The right hander took the win, striking out 11 batters, including the final eight he faced. He had a least one strike out in each of the five innings he pitched. Longview registered just one hit.
Kolton Jones was 3-for-4 with three RBI and Mason Rawson contributed two hits in the rout. Ben Barrows was 2-for-3 in the game.
McQueen was 2-for-2 with a double and triple and two RBI. The triple by McQueen keyed a rally and came with two outs. Tripp Reeves also plated a run with a single.
“We responded well and took care of business. It was a big win. We’re playing better in every game,” SS head baseball coach Jerrod Hammack said.
The Wildcats host Texas High Friday at 7 p.m.
