Winnsboro karate students win medals

Lawson's Kenpo Karate of Winnsboro attended the invitation-only Amateur Organization of Karate's State Championships in December, winning a total of 10 state gold, silver, and bronze medals for 2008.
Students competed regionally throughout the year in order to earn the Top 5 ranking necessary to make the trip to Austin as a seeded player. Seven Lawson's students competed in the day long event held at the Austin Convention Center in downtown Austin, including night time finals competition. After night finals, an awards banquet and dance was held.
The attending competitors included: participant Codi Ford, Brazos Kight winning third intermediate traditional Kata and second intermediate junior weapons, Chase Williams winning first intermediate traditional Kata and third intermediate junior weapons, Travis Murdoch winning third intermediate junior weapons, Melony Huffman winning third intermediate sparring and first advanced junior weapons, Colt Murdoch winning third junior blackbelt sparring, and instructor Donald Lawson winning second in blackbelt traditional Kata and third in blackbelt weapons.
