From staff reports
ALBA – Tuesday was the date chosen for the junior high girls District 13-2A track meet.
The Como-Pickton JH Lady Eagles vied for ribbons at the races hosted by Alba-Golden. The Como-Pickton JH girls have been coached by head coach Virginia Green, along with assistants Mark Bates, Frances Mowat, and Jenny Green.
“I was extremely proud of all of my girls. These girls went out every day and put forth their best effort. They are girls, and they do get distracted sometimes, but they always participated with all of their heart,” said Green. “Again our numbers were very small, but they always went and did their very best. I had one seventh grader, who up to two weeks ago, had never ran the 800-meter, and anyone who has ran the 800 knows how difficult that race can be. She went out and for most of the race was about seventh or eighth place. On the last curve, I told her just do whatever you can to take a few girls—she not only took a few girls she ended up placing first. It was an incredible race along with the seventh grade mile relay. All of the girls were incredible.” The seventh grade mile relay team placed fourth in district competition.
“I was, along with the other coaches, were very proud of their effort…I look forward to coaching them as high school athletes,” she added.
