COMO — The Como-Pickton JH Eagles competed and hosted the District 13-2A boys track meet Monday.
The eighth grade C-P team bounced back from a 60 point deficit after field events to win first with 123 points. Grand Saline place second with 118, Lone Oak came in third with 103, and Winnsboro was fourth with 90.
"This is the first time this eighth grade group has beaten Grand Saline in a track meet.  They usually finish well ahead of us, but we beat them when it counted the most," said C-P Eagle head track coach Greg Roller.  "We finally got to the point where we were able to get more fourth, fifth and sixth places which helped put us ahead of them. I really appreciated all the help from all the other schools and C-P staff that helped make the track meet successful for all the schools involved."
The seventh grade boys division was won by Quitman with 117 followed by Lone Oak with 114, and Winnsboro came in third with 111 points. C-P seventh grade team placed eighth with 18 points on the heels of Cole Mitchell and Ruben Hernandez.  "For the seventh grade, we only had eight competitors and most of them were throwers, so we were very limited as to what we could do, but all of them gave a great effort in their events," Roller said.
