COMO — The Como-Pickton Eagles took an exciting, bottom of the seventh inning 3-2 win over the visiting Caddo Mills Foxes Friday.
"We came out on top in the bottom of the seventh inning. We were anchored by a strong pitching performance from Zach Carpenter, a sophomore. He threw seven strong innings allowing only one earned run. He kept Caddo off balance all night, spotting pitches and mixing in his curve at any point in the at-bat. He was definitely our star of the night," said C-P head baseball coach Dustin Carr.
"On offense,  we were patient at the plate and took advantage of their mistakes when we had the chance. Paxton Vail led us with a hit and two runs scored, Ryan Carpenter had two hits and an RBI," coach added.
The C-P hitters battled against a strong Caddo Mills pitcher.  Caddo Mills pitcher Ryan Calender has signed with Arkansas to play football.
"Defensively we started off shaky, allowing them to score two runs on two errors in the second inning, but we settled down after that and played solid defense the rest of the way. They really started to concentrate and made the routine plays you have to make if you expect to win," Carr said.
The C-P Eagle JV team also put a win in the win column against Caddo Mills with a 5-2 victory.
Against the Winnsboro Red Raiders on Tuesday, C-P varsity had a 2-1 lead going into the seventh inning, which made it a hard loss, but Winnsboro came out and hit the ball well in the seventh. The Raiders ended up scoring four that inning to win over the Eagles 5-2.
